"This was a nice read... my only disappointment was that it was more based on the old comic books and I thought it would be more movie based. Don't get me wrong... there is a lot of info in this book that I gleaned and enjoyed. Maybe I just read the intro wrong before purchasing. Still though, I nice book to have around as a reference to the movies..."

  • I typically read stories however, this title caught my attention and for a fact book, it is written well and even has touches of humor. It is filled with great facts about heroes, villains, writers, producers, and more. If you're a big time comic person you will probably enjoy this (I do) and if you're just the casual movie person, this will fill you in and answer so much.
  • Our family is overwhelmed with the amount of information that Mr. Casey has packed into this easily read book. We have fans of all ages in our house who appreciate all of the inside info and backstory. It also appeals to those who want an introduction to these colorful characters as well as long time comic fans. This book is a great gift for your old and young!

Don't get me wrong... there is a lot of info in this book that I gleaned and enjoyed. Maybe I just read the intro wrong before purchasing. • Dan Casey has written an amazing book that not only collects the information that fills in the holes you miss in the movies, but also a smart analysis of why Marvel tells their stories the way they do. It's a sharp funny book that takes digestible factoids and turns them into a page turner.
  • First and foremost, this book is excellent. I could not have found it at a better point in time than I did today.

As I was browsing through Barnes and Noble this afternoon I was stuck on where to even begin with the hundreds and hundreds of Marvel comics/paperbacks on display. Thinking to myself, "Where is the old stuff?", "This isn't what I saw in theaters..." and more, I discovered this book! After a few page turns in I knew that I would be leaving the store with this book.

I grew up in a household filled with comic books thanks to my father. As early (even earlier) as the 2003 Hulk movie releasing in theaters my father would bring my mom, myself and himself to the movies to watch as a family. Shortly after getting home from watching the 2003 movie my father went on and purchased the very first Hulk comic book on eBay for thousands of dollars. Long story short, my father had been an avid comic book collector and reader since the 1970's when he was just a kid going to the comic store with his father as well. Needless to say, my dad instilled the same love for comic book characters, collecting and passion into me, intentional or unintentional. Every Marvel movie from 2003 onward we went and saw together. Which is why from the second I opened this book up to the dedication section of it in the very beginning I knew that this book was for me. The writer dedicates the book to his father and the exact word usage touched me and reminded me of my dad and I as I grew up.

This book provides you with all of the details you will ever (so far) need in getting into the Marvel universe. Basics such as back story on each of the Avengers characters like Hulk, Iron Man, Captain America, Thor and more. It even mentions how Ant-Man and The Wasp were in the original Avengers group too. You'll also be reading about Stan Lee, Jack Kirby and all of the others who made this Marvel universe what it is today. Details on the original comics, creators, characters and much more will keep you turning the page to receive more knowledge.

I opened the book hoping to know and understand more about this universe in which I grew up with and still to this day, more than ever, love more and more. I cannot thank the author enough for compiling all of this information together in one place for Marvel fans such as myself who need that extra help 'fully' getting into the universe. It left me feeling a slight personal collection with the author with his father also helping him get into the Marvel universe as a small child.

Final verdict Looking to get into the Marvel universe? Already a fan but want more knowledge and information? This book is for you. It is worth every penny and is much more informative and entertaining than anything you can pull up through Wikipedia. Support the author Dan Casey and check this book out today. You'll be glad you did!
  • A few seconds into reading this book, you'll instantly realize that it is more than just a book; it's an experience. It's a intellectual journey much akin to that of Frodo and the ring, however, this journey is not devoid of humor and wit. It's informative as it is enjoyable, as Dan attacks the reader with vicious rhetoric at every turn, as if he is one of the superheroes he writes so knowledgeably about.

The Marvel Universe is one that is more confusing than it seems, which is why this book is a must for any fans of the comic books and movies. All you need to know and learn about the Avengers is tucked tightly in this book's marvelous 300+ pages, tackling anything from Doctor Strange to the ins and outs of Hydra.

The best part about this book is its simplicity. You can scour the internet all you want searching for information on these topics and few will really allow you to truly understand each intricacy, each origin story and every facet of the Avengers quite like this book. Furthermore, it's super fun! Each line is so appealing to devour and each topic is just as interesting as the next. If you're a fan of the Avengers, to put it simply, you need this book.

Highlight of the Book #33, Agent Coulson. There's definitely a good chunk of information that many, including myself, missed by just seeing the movies/TV show. It was awesome reading more into mine, and many others, favorite minor character.
  • Dr Pym as Yellowjacket was mentally sane and stable for at least ten to fifteen years before Jim Shooter decided to have him lash out at his wife, court martialed, and framed and inprisoned by his arch enemy Egghead. Its not fair to infer that the character was always mentally unstable because again, there were a number of years that Pym as Yellowjacket was totally sane and mentally stable.
  • I got this book as a holiday gift and it turned out to be an excellent primer to school my know-it-all nephews about classic Avengers lore. I hope the author takes a stab at the X-Men next.
