• If you do not believe in evolution, then do not get this book. It would have been great if it had just been a book answering interesting facts without bias, but sadly it is not. I even would have tolerated one section about evolution, however this book makes mention of evolution all throughout the book.
• My kiddo is a reader. I mean a legit bookworm. I played baseball, she wants to do dumb things like "learn new things" and "figure stuff out." I worked on cars, she wants to "find the meaning to life." Looks like we're not adding trophies to THIS house. Anyway, unless you want your 8 year old to be some nerdy, super smart kid, and be curious, and into science, and stimulate the ability to look deeper into things and become generally well-rounded and probably smarter than most average adults and the envy of all her friends and who will be continually supported by her proud parents for her thirst of knowledge, then don't buy this book.
• This is such an interesting gift! My 12 y/o niece is a really girly girl who just wants girl stuff all the time for gifts. I am a biologist and feel it is my duty to try and get her interested in science, I used to really enjoy getting books like this when I was young. I read some of the book before I wrapped it up and I think most kids would find this stuff hilarious and entertaining! I don't really think this is an appropriate gift for an adult, most things are stuff we already have learned, just an FYI.
• Do not buy if you do not agree with the theory of evolution. I will be returning this book.
• I bought this for my 7 year old son and it's perfect! It's much bigger than expected as well. The pages are very colorful and makes learning so much more fun! I would HIGHLY recommend this book!!

• This is a stellar book for young readers. The colors and overall presentation are engaging. I've bought kid science-y dictionary type books in the past on , and was disappointed at the lack of high definition photos and kid-friendly text. This is a great way to give kids a taste of science - to peak their initial interest and encourage them to perform additional research.
• My 8 year old son is very interested in this book and is always picking it up when he has down time. He is always spouting out facts he learned in the book.

• The Secret continues the Love in O’Leary series with this touching and painful look into the lives of two men who have lost themselves over time. The author guides the reader through their journey to a new future.
  The witty banter between Micah and Con kept me laughing. They had their serious moments, but it meant a lot for Micah to laugh freely and for Con to laugh genuinely. The author has drawn these characters beautifully. They are interesting and complex, yet simple in their desire for a better future.
  Micah and Con have very different personalities, but in understanding each other, they begin to understand themselves. They see that when put together, their true characters create a safe place for them to let go and rest from the stress and heartache of the lives they have been living. Micah can finally relax his stringent workaholic ways and find the humor in things. Con can finally forgive himself and blossom into who he is meant to be.
  I hurt for Con as I learned the extent to which the town and his family continued to make him pay. How long must a person suffer? He is not even allowed to have a normal, healthy personality without someone questioning it. Until Micah. He alone allowed Con to be himself. He made him see that it is ok to have hopes and dreams and to work towards them, That it is ok to move past the mistakes of his youth and embrace the possibilities of a future minus the overshadowing of guilt being heaped continuously upon his head.
  There is an age gap between Micah and Con, but it is not an issue with these two. They quickly move past enemy status and move into a friendship/working relationship that opens their eyes and their hearts to the options available to them. They spend a significant length of time learning to love and grow into each other, not rushing, just quietly and secretly growing closer and closer. It is quite lovely to see.
  The secondary characters are supportive of the main characters, and their actions and reactions add weight to the storyline.
  I enjoyed this book. It touched a part of me that I didn't know could still be affected.
  I laughed a lot, but I cried too. I cheered and shook my fist. It covered all the feels, I think.
  As always, I look forward to more from this author.
• The people of O'Leary really get themselves wound up over some really strange things and circumstances, and in this book that is squared and trebled and quadrupled along the way.
  
  The only diss that I have is that Constantine, who is described a hundred times as the most beautiful man in the world, is not on the cover. But cover man Micah is certainly not someone to sneeze at.
  
  I can hardly begin to outline the plot. All I can do is strongly suggest that you stick with it even when both Micah and Con go into their sometimes intellectually and emotionally pea-pod brains to get them into such convoluted anti-relationship moods that you simply wish you could reach into the page and strangle both of them.
  
  But, I digress. Loved this, love the town, love most of the people, loved these two. Lovingly waiting for the next couple of misfits to pop up with another tale.

• Edgy, sexy, angsty. Haters to lovers. This book has it all, it’s my favorite so far.
  Micah Bloom, the newcomer in town selling flowers and winning contracts from Ross landscaping.
  Constantine Ross, the middle wild child of said Ross Landscaping
  Constantine has a fun loving way of looking at life, Micah is so focused, that he is missing out. Constantine teases him and before you know it they are dating. Life continues on.
  I recommend reading their story as a lot happens and I don’t wish to spoil it for you.
• By far this is the one I love the most in this series. I have loved all of the previous books, but I so fell in love with Micah and Con. They journey May took me on was great. I enjoyed every minute of this book and can't wait for the next one in the series to come out. GREAT READ!!!!!!
• Go Constantine! Go Micah! Oh, my. These two cuties. I just loved this book from start to finish. I now have to go back and read the whole series again.

“Hattiesburg, An American City in Black and White” by William Sturkey, an Assistant Professor of American History at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, helps explain the roots of this disparity. He provides chapter and verse history of the role played by Jim Crow – what Adam Gopnik calls “toxic bigotry” in a parallel context -- in creating a two-tiered society in Hattiesburg: a vigilant white supremacist overclass and a subservient black underclass. Jim Crow’s legacy still shadows the city.

As Sturkey’s book demonstrates, from the 1870s on, the city’s hard edged racist regime had significant consequences for the black community, most, but not all of them, bad. Virtually walled off from the white parts of the city, Hattiesburg’s blacks lived in the Mobile Street District of Hattiesburg. This black enclave was self-sufficient, self-governing within its confines, protective and nourishing for its residents. The blacks bonded, looked out for one another and, year in, year out, sought, in vain, a path to equality.

That day has yet to come, but, as Sturkey writes in the concluding chapter of his book, it is a good deal closer – thanks to progress put in motion by the Civil Rights movement of the 1960’s. But the advances have come at a cost. While blacks are now an integral part of the civic and economic life of the greater community, “the extraordinarily resilient black communities where a people lived and grew together within the confines of Jim Crow” are history. The book shows how difficult it is for our country to open up to its minorities without detracting from their survival strengths.

• I have a strong interest in the history of the post-WWII civil rights movement and have read some great books on the topic (Local People by John Dittmer is a favorite), so I was particularly keen to read this book about my hometown in Mississippi. William Sturkey's book uniquely lays out the development of one city and the way barriers were systematically put in place to maintain a segregated society. The author has done a beautiful job of showing how the strengths of the African-American community’s social institutions and the leadership of key families laid the groundwork for the courageous activism of the early 1960s. I think it was really helpful to see how all that played out from the very beginnings of the town, how the black and white communities developed in parallel within the same space. Well written, impeccably researched, and very informative about Hattiesburg's social and economic history--I highly recommend Hattiesburg An American City in Black and White.
• Cover to cover this is a solid piece of work. It goes in depth enough to vividly put the reader in the scene while not losing sight of the broader national landscape. It’s griping, it’s important and I highly recommend it!
• The alternating perspectives of white and black community members is a perfect technique for explaining the interplay of two diverse groups. The early stories about the Piney Woods are full of courageous visionaries and extremely hard working men and women. One of my favorite chapters talks about Camp Shelby during WW2 which illustrates the importance of military bases to local cities and the fun ways citizens helped soldiers face deployment. This book provides the stories and the data necessary to understand how Jim Crow affected the lives of real people - and, more importantly - how people overcame the barriers to survive and thrive. Loved this book!

• This was a fun package of books to read. Girlie stuff, funny stories all Cinderella related. Fun characters and plots. Very fanciful
• Loved the story of Law of April. It was sort of like a real life Cinderella situation. April was the most likable heroine of some of the books I’ve read lately. You’re always cheering for her. It’s a very satisfying love story. And it’s the kind of story you want to read so the world will seem a little more beautiful.
• Loved this set of short stories. I bought the book to read Prince Phillip's Cinderella (from the modern prince's series) by Mona Risk, it rounded out the series perfectly. Completely enjoyed the main characters and the supporting ones. 2 fav was She's Me by Mimi Barbour. Completely worth reading.
